하드웨어 사이트로 유명한 Anandtech에서 AMD 그래픽 부분 CTO(최고 기술 경영자; Chief Technology Officer) Eric Demers 의 퇴직 사실을 밝혔습니다.
Eric Demers는 이번주 말 회사를 떠나게 되는데, 퇴직한 후 경쟁사 NVIDIA나 INTEL로 가지는 않는다고 하는데, 그건 두고볼 일인 것 같고 아무튼 유능한 기술자 한 분이 떠나신다고 하는군요.
AMD의 CEO가 바뀐 후로 참 많은 경영진 및 직원들이 바뀐 것 같습니다. 얼마전 전 직원 10%를 해고시키는 일이 있었는데, 새 CEO의 경영 방침이 꽤 매서운 느낌입니다.
Anandtech 관계자는 Eric Demers와 2주 전 식사를 했다고 하는데, 당시 Eric Demers는 AMD 로드맵에 대해 상당히 낙관적으로 생각하고 있었다고 합니다.
어떻게 보면 다 죽어가는 CPU 부분을 뛰어난 GPU로 먹여살린 최고 지휘자라고 보여지는데 퇴직 소식은 안타깝기 짝이 없네요.

AMD Chief Technology Officer Mark Papermaster will assume interim responsibility for the Graphics Business Unit CTO role until a replacement is found.
AMD remains fully committed to our critical graphics IP development and discrete GPU products. We have a tremendous depth of talent in our organization, a game plan that is resonating with our customers and our team, and we are continuing to bring graphics-performance-leading products to market. We will attract the right technology leader for this role.
We thank Eric for his contributions to the business and wish him well in his future endeavors.

위 내용으로 보면, 어떻게 해석해야할지 모르겠지만, Eric Demers가 다른 기회를 위해 나간다는 얘기로 보이는데 Anandtech 관계자가 생각하는 것은 좀 다른 것 같기도 하네요. AMD 로드맵에 관해 긍정적으로 보고 있다는 내용에서 뭔가 AMD에 애착이 많았던 분이라고 생각하는데, 이게 단순히 다른 곳으로 이직을 위해 나간 것인지, 외압에 의해 자진 퇴직인지는 뭐 AMD만 알겠죠.
